2 Hajj Crafts for Kids
Posted by KIRAN ANSARI on
The best 10 days of the year are coming in a few days. We often put in so much effort to celebrate Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr, but don't give as much emphasis to Hajj and Eid ul Adha. Here are 2 crafts to help you take Dhul Hajj up a notch for your children. The book is about umrah but is fine for kids. It is great for ages 3-7. Buy Mariam's Umrah Adventure here.
1. Kabah Craft
Often, kids make the kabah a black cube. I wanted them to learn that is actually made out of bricks by Ibrahim (as) and Ismail (as) and has a black fabric (kiswa) over the brick structure.
So, I ordered the brick boxes from Amazon. I got lightweight shiny black fabric from Hobby Lobby and cut it so it doesn't cover the brick cube completely. Glued it on with a regular glue stick. I wanted some bricks to show like they do during Hajj time. I added some gold tape and tadaa.
You can take it further by adding a door and the black stone. We had 35 kids, so kept it simple :)
2. Sa'ee Craft
I wanted to show the kids how Bibi Hajr (ra) ran between safa and marwah looking for water for baby Ismail (as). I wanted to show that with faith, we also need ACTION.
You can print the picture on cardstock here, or just draw 2 mountains. pierce a small hole (I used a compass needle) and put in some yarn through one hole and tie a knot at the back. Add a bead in the yarn and then thread the other side through the other hole and tie a knot. Then use super glue (adults ONLY) and add the depiction of the woman on the bead. This way kids can see how she moved between the mountains. I bought sand colored crepe paper from amazon also to depict the hot desert sun.
You can take it further by adding zamzam gushing out too.
I hope you enjoy creating some special memories with your children, iA.
Warmly,
Kiran
